Tennessee Section ITE Mission Statement

The mission of The Institute of Transportation Engineers – Tennessee Section (TSITE) is the professional development and growth of the traffic and transportation industry, promoting safe and efficient flow of people, goods and services. TSITE will work diligently with the Institute of Transportation Engineers – Southern District (SDITE) and The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) to maintain and further enhance our professional organization by developing and supporting safe standards and sound guidelines for the practice of traffic and transportation engineering.

  • TSITE Awards Committee

    The duty of the Awards Committee is to select candidates from the Section as nominees for District and Section Awards.

  • SITE Nominations Committee

    The duties of the Nominations Committee are to solicit and select candidates for TSITE officers and SDITE representatives (Section Board members). Usually one candidate is nominated for President (current Vice-President), one for Vice-President (current Secretary-Treasurer), and two for Secretary-Treasurer. Two nominations for Section Representatives will be made each year to serve a two-year term. (TSITE currently has 2 representatives; the election of the Section representative would replace one representative at the end of his/her term.)

    The Nominations Committee will also be responsible for the nomination of candidates for the Southern District (District 5) Board. All candidates shall be ITE members.

  • TSITE Scholarship Committee

    The duties of the Scholarship Committee are solicitation, review, and selection of five recipients of the TSITE Scholarship Fund annual awards. (This committee will work with the Career Development Committee for distribution and collection of applications for these scholarships.)

    The Scholarship Committee is also required to draft letters for the Section President’s signature for the recipient and applicants notification. The letters to the recipients should invite them to the Summer Meeting where they will be presented with their checks. Non-winners should receive a letter thanking them for their participation.

    Another responsibility of the Scholarship Committee is to inform the TSITE President in writing of the results (recipient’s names and total number submitting applications by university) with a copy going to the Chairman of the Section Relations Committee for the web page and newsletter and a copy going to the Chairman of the Career Development Committee.

  • TSITE Section Relations Committee

    The duties of the Section Relations Committee are to keep the membership of the Section informed of pertinent news and policy matters and develop means to inform and educate the public regarding the transportation profession.

  • TSITE Technical Committee

    The duties of the Technical Committee are to develop projects in Tennessee and prepare reports for submittal to the Southern District (District 5) and the International ITE for publication and awards. Sub-committees may be formed within the major metropolitan regions to assist in the programs.

     

    The Technical Committee is also in charge of assisting the Section Vice-President and the Career Committee in developing programs for the TSITE Meetings and Student Chapter meetings.

    The Section Chairman shall perform the duties as specified in item IV, Section Technical Activities of the ITE Manual on Technical Activities.

  • TSITE Legislative Committee

    The duties of the Legislative Committee are to obtain and review weekly State House and Senate Transportation Committee and Subcommittee calendars, to report current legislative activity to membership directly at meetings and through the Section Relations Committee, to advise the Section Board of pending legislation of particular interest to TSITE, and to assist the Section Board in communication to State Legislature when appropriate.

What is TSITE?

The Institute of Transportation Engineers – Tennessee Section (TSITE) is a professional organization of persons who are involved in the field of transportation and who share a common interest in improving the quality of the surface transportation system in Tennessee.

 

TSITE is the Tennessee Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers – Southern District (SDITE) an organization of state Sections in the southeastern United States. TSITE includes individuals engaged as engineers, planners, technicians, administrators, academicians, researchers, sales representatives, and students in transportation fields in Tennessee.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an International organization promoting the growth and development of the transportation profession all over the world.

 

 The Tennessee Section includes approximately 400 members, and ITE has approximately 16,000 members in more than 75 countries around the world.
